Since it’s release Fortnite has absolutely stormed the PC gaming market. It once again proves that a nice idea, well executed, can easily be a breakout title. The capability of cross-platform play was a major advantage which has allowed for the quick accumulation of a massive player based. At last count, figures were in the 7,000,000 regions.
With that amount of players though clearly comes a lot of cheaters. Now, when it comes to developers and cheaters, this can often be a minefield for the legitimate gamer. Some developers choose to ignore the problem, or simply pretend it doesn’t exist and some drop the ban hammer like the wrath of the Gods.
In this instance, developer Epic Games has done the latter reports PCGames as they say that thousands of accounts have already been banned for cheating.
The one thing that kills a franchise quickly is a toxic player base. Going back a few years, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was an excellent game. On the PC version, however, it had one major problem, cheaters.
While cheating might be considered by some to be ‘part and parcel’ of gaming, it can have a significantly major effect.
In that instance, it basically had the whole community accusing each other of cheating. It’s an age-old story, but if you go 20-0 in a game, someone is bound to accuse you of cheating. However, in a game where cheating is so common, these toxic accusations start finding roots with other players.
Epic Games are clearly looking to avoid such a matter and as such have already banned thousands of accounts. In addition, the promise that it will not stop there and anyone who continues to cheat will be removed.
Therefore Epic Games may not only have the team at PUBG angry with them, they have several thousand banned gamers too.
