Malaysia Taking Legal Action Against Meta Over Harmful Facebook Content

The Malaysian government will be taking legal action against Facebook’s parent company Meta over harmful content on the social media platform.
Malaysia Sues Meta
as reported by apnews.com, the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has claimed that Facebook has been recently plagued by “a significant volume of undesirable content” across a variety of sensitive issues. Some of these issues include race, religion, gambling and scam advertisements. The government claimed that it had made several efforts to reach out to Meta to remove this harmful content but has had no luck with Meta’s response being “sluggish and unsatisfactory”. Due to Meta’s lack of cooperation, the MCMC has had no choice but to turn to legal action to protect the people.
It’s quite funny that they’re targeting Facebook here when Twitter, at least in my opinion, is a significantly worse platform for all of the complaints that have been stated, especially since Musk took over. It will be interesting to see where this goes as another lawsuit for a big company is always fun to see. To be honest, though, I don’t think it will change anything about Facebook as these issues have persisted for many years with few attempts at stopping it.
