There are various degrees of video game fandom. This could range from simply buying a title when a new version comes out regularly, or it could mean getting a tattoo of or naming your children from your favorite game character. And there are those who are pushing the boundary even beyond the limits of obsession. Meet Amirul Rizwan Musa, a young Malaysian model, entrepreneur and Final Fantasy fanatic. Musa is distinct from other Final Fantasy fans for the simple fact that he has now spent over $41,000 USD for cosmetic surgery to look like his favorite character Squall Leonhart.
Transformation into Final Fantasy Character
Musa admittedly underwent plastic surgery initially to improve his self esteem. He blames the facial scars he got from chicken pox at 16 as the main turning point which affected his looks. Speaking to China Morning Post, Musa admits being “obsessed with anime characters”. Musa, who is now business owner dealing with beauty products also spends a lot of time on Instagram posting selfies. Other than Squall Leonhart, he describes his look as a cross between Squall and a Ken doll (Barbie’s boyfriend). He has had several procedures done since the first one. By now, he as spent over RM 180,000, which is the equivalent of £32,282. This includes skin bleaching, rhinoplasty, eye-lid shaping and more.
Unfortunately for the Final Fantasy fan, he is now receiving a lot more attention than he ever thought possible. After his photos made the rounds online in Asia, the harassment and criticisms from netizens have come pouring in. He even says some have come up to him in public, cursing at him for no reason. Maybe carrying Squall’s Gunblade around in public will tamper some of that.
