The Marvo GT-64 PlayStation and PC Wireless controller is available from quite a few places. eBay shops, small high-street PC retailers, and quite a lot of smaller online retailers. It’s fairly priced too, coming in at just £27 from some, but never really more than £35, making it quite a bit cheaper than big-name rivals. Especially impressive given that for PlayStation 3 and 4 users, all their common features are present.
This is a great little controller, and while it’s not perfect, I think any flaws are reflected by the significant savings. Let’s get the rough stuff out of the way. The battery life isn’t huge, and at six hours, it’s likely you’ll need to charge it more often than the official controllers. Of course, you can play and charge at the same time though, so it’s not like you have to go play outside for a while or anything.
Also, the D-PAD isn’t great. It works well for bringing up maps, changing weapons, music in games, etc. Really, if that’s all you’ll use it for, it’ll be perfect, honest. However, if you want to do rolls for fighting game combos, it’s just not as smooth as I would like, a mighty fireball combo quickly becomes a couple of standard punches.
There is plenty to like though, and the durable analogue sticks feel smooth and responsive. Playing Forza on my PC, VR Racing on my arcade cabinet, or Driveclub on the PlayStation, it just didn’t skip a beat. The analogue triggers feel right, the buttons are responsive, and there were also no connectivity issues, which is always a good thing.
Pairing the controller with a PC was easy, just hook up the USB cable. You can hold two buttons down to switch it from D-Input to X-Input, and Windows will see it as a generic controller, or surprisingly an Xbox One controller respectively. However, because it uses the standard PC controller interface, the touchpad, speaker, and gyro are not even visible in Windows. I tried DS4Windows, but the software just didn’t see a PlayStation controller there to try tinker with those. No matter, that’s what I expected, but I thought some of you may benefit from knowing this in advance.
Marvo ticks all the right boxes if you’re looking for an affordable controller for your PlayStation devices and even for your PC. It’s good to see a 3rd party controller which still has the gyro, speaker, and touchpad all present, while still offering some significant savings.
