If, like me, you have followed this series through from the start, on the same format and save game, you will know that your actions in the first and second titles can carry across to ME3, loading your saved game at the start of ME3 allows you to carry over your level, appearance and of course many of the consequences of your choices throughout this long standing story line. Fortunately ME3 is just as pick-up and playable to new comers as well, giving you a few quick “tick here to lay out your past” options early in the game to get things straightened out and catch you up to speed on the story. A great feature that both rewards long standing fans of the series but at the same time doesn’t leave new comers completely out of the loop.
The story picks up almost right where it all left off really, and of course can be a different run of evens dependant on how you played the previous two games, but the usual clichés don’t take long to present them selves in ME3, your the bad ass hero that everyone seems to love, set with a near impossible mission to save the galaxy from extermination by a bunch of giant killer robots and creatures called the reapers, using your manly charms, no nonsense approach to talking sense into lazy politicians and of course an epic assortment of weapons.
Weapon customisation and armour modifications have been given a great boost in ME3, it seemed every location I looked I was finding a new scope, set of knee guards, or shotgun, so you should be able to find a loadout that suits your style pretty quickly here.
The story has been given a heck of a boost too, with an over arcing main quest that ever sees you pushing forward towards your main goal, but providing plenty of reasons for you to take on many of the optional side missions, for better or for worse. While there are a few fetch quests, they are usually laced with plenty of lore, background information on the story and their sub characters and because its all fully voice acted, you can’t help but feel more involved with the many characters that you help along the way that you would find in the previous Mass Effect games.
