Earlier this month, BioWare released its official hardware requirements for the PC version of its forthcoming sci-fi action RPG Mass Effect: Andromeda. While the minimum requirements to run the game at an estimated 720p and 30fps on ‘low’ graphical settings – an Intel Core i5 3570, 8GB of RAM, and either a 2GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon 7750 – were unsurprising, the recommended requirements caused something of a stir.
According to BioWare, a Core i7 4790, 16GB of RAM, and a 3GB GTX 1060 or 4GB RX 480 will only manage to output 1080p and 30fps on ‘high’ settings. While many assumed that this estimate was conservative on the part of BioWare, it made many wonder just how powerful a PC would have to be to run the game at 4K and/or 60fps.
However, Mass Effect: Andromeda producer Michael Gamble has chimed in, revealing that the official specs are not entirely accurate and that he expects a GTX 1060 to be able to handle more than 30fps for the majority of the game.
“No, I mean, it depends on your machine,” Gamble told PC Gamer. “And it’s really hard to benchmark individual machines. We’re just saying that that’s the bare minimum that it’ll run at. It’ll probably run at higher than that for most of the game, it’s just really hard to be specific about it. We just want to do the minimum and we want to do the recommended. The recommended, at least on my machine at home, I have a 1060, I run at higher than 30 [fps] for the majority of the game. But it’s hard to actually to say, ‘This is the specs, and this is exactly what you’ll run at.'”
Mass Effect: Andromeda is out for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on 21st March.
