Samsung’s latest flagship Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be officially launched on March 29 but more information are surfacing ahead of that announcement date. German tech website WinFuture.de has leaked the official press photos, details and pricing, while confirming some of the rumours that have been floating around for a while. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will indeed have a 5.8 and 6.2 inch display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, having a resolution of 2960 x 1440 on a Super-AmoLED panel for both models. The main camera packs a 12-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, phase detection and laser autofocus. On the user-facing camera is an 8-megapixel F/1.7 aperture camera that also has autofocus capabilities as well as an iris scanner for user security identification. This scanner is supposedly “ultrasensitive” and is designed to provide the highest level of security. Users can also now store sensitive data on a secure folder using this secure login. There is also a finger print reader located sideways to the rear of the camera.
The European models of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will have four Gigabytes of memory which is surprisingly small for a flagship smartphone, although the internal memory is set to 64GB UFS 2.0 with expansion option through microSD card slot with up to 256 GB support. Both models will also still have a headphone jack at the bottom, right next to the USB Type C port. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will also now sport stereo external speakers, upgrading the mono speakers of the previous generation. Both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are available in black, orchid gray, silver, gold and blue.
In some regions, Samsung will be offering “Samsung Guard S8” which is an express warranty program that will arrange for a repair within two hours and extends the warranty for another year. It also includes a one-time free display replacement. A remote support feature is also included on the devices themselves. Both are IP68 certified dust-proof and water-proof up to 1.5m. Both will have Qi wireless charging and the battery for the S8 is supposedly 3000 mAh, while the S8 plus will be 3500 mAh.
The price for the Samsung Galaxy S8 is set at €799 while the Galaxy S8 Plus is priced at €899.
