MediaTek have been going from strength to strength in the smartphone market largely thanks to their ability to offer dual, quad and now octa core mobile CPUs at an irresistibly low price to smartphone makers. That competitive advantage has shown in MediaTek’s latest financial figures. For June their net sales are up a staggering 60.71% compared to the same period last year, for the first half of this year their sales are up by a whopping 74.91%. Despite that huge growth MediaTek are still disappointed with June’s figures. They claim shipments of their 8 core chips are down compared to where they want to be and they are hoping this will pick up in July where they predict market demand will rebound.
MediaTek’s latest MTK6595 chip features 8 cores in a big.LITTLE configuration, 4 Cortex A15 for stressful tasks and 4 Cortex A7 for lighter tasks as well as up to 4GB of LPDDR2/3 RAM. MTK6595 will also support USB 3.0, eMMC 5.0, MHL 2.0 and 4G technologies.
