Meet the Turing Phone: The Most Secure Android Smartphone Ever Made

With no USB port, no headphone jack, and made from the futuristic-sounding “liquidmorphium” metal, the bizarre but beautiful Turing Phone is billed as the most secure smartphone ever made. Running a modified Android 5.1 operating system, protected by Turing’s secure apps, the Turing Phone is built for a world in which our devices and their data are at the mercy of hackers, both recreational and state-funded. “We’re walking into the cipher phone age,” SYL Chao, CEO of Turing Robotics Industries, puts it.

The Turing Phone runs on a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB RAM, with a 5.5-inch, 1080p screen, a rear 13-megapixel camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. The “liquidmorphium” metal the phone is made from is meant to be stronger than titanium and steel, and cannot be bent. “There’s always a new material that sets the stage for the upcoming era,” Chao says.

“It changes the paradigm completely,” Chao says of the smartphone. Though nothing is uncrackable, admits Chao, the Turing Phone is about as secure as it gets. “If they put 10,000 men on the machine, surely they can crack it,” he concedes. The phone comes with built-in access to its own currency, the Turing coin. According to Chao, if the Turing coin becomes popular, then the Turing Phone could actually appreciate in value.

The smartphone will be available for pre-order on 30th July, with the three models – 16GB ($610), 64GB ($740), and 128GB ($870) – which ship in September. A New York flagship store planned next year.
