Mega Drive Game Sales Still Booming

Steam lets us buy lots of our favourite games on the day of release, but there are a few games where no matter their age, you just want to keep playing them. Some of these games are those made by Sega for the Mega Drive and Genesis consoles, but don’t worry, the recent sale on Steam helped sell more than 350,000 “classic” games.
The sale was used to commemorate the release of the Sega Megadrive Classics Hub, a new release for their games that brought the experience to a virtual bedroom alongside a new workshop feature that allowed you to custom create ROM’s, officially letting you mod to your heart’s content a barrage of classic Sega games such as Streets Of Rage, Altered Beast and Alex Kidd.
Sega’s Europe director of digital distributions James Schall seems more than happy with the result saying that they were “really chuffed that the fans got behind this update”. Schall stated that the company felt this way because:
“350,000 sales is a phenomenal achievement for content which is over 20 years old! It shows that there’s still a huge following out for the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis, reinvigorated by the fantastic community of modders out there uploading great content.”
When it comes to classic games, the Mega Drive collection is a start point anyone can pick up and enjoy, and with the recent sale, I’m sure more than enough are already playing back their younger years.
