Megakopter Drone Sets World Record Lifting Heavy Cargo

Setting a Guinness world record for pretty much anything can be quite challenging, especially if it involves some sort of technological breakthrough. As far as drones are concerned, recent reports suggest that a team of engineers from the University of Oslo has managed to set a world record for lifting cargo using a drone. The cargo in question weighed 61 kilograms or just a bit over 134 pounds, and it was lifted in the air by a powerful multi-rotor drone named Megakopter. The Megakopter was put together using a total of eight hexacopters, and it uses 13 rotors powered by four dozen individual motors installed on an aluminum-plywood frame.
The mega-drone managed to lift up the cargo in the air, and it held it there for 37 seconds, which is how it earned its place in the famous record-keeping book. The team has no plans to stop yet, however, as its members want to eventually create an even more powerful version of the Megakopter, one that would be able to transport very large packages or even people, as long as the weather is favorable. If you want to see the drone actually setting the world record, all you have to do is have a look at the following video.
