Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater's Difficulty Changes Based on Player's Perspective

The long-awaited remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, will offer a unique twist on its difficulty settings based on the player’s chosen perspective. This news was revealed by the game’s Creative Producer, Yuji Korekado, in a recent interview with Famitsu (thanks VGC), adding a fresh layer to the classic stealth-action gameplay fans have come to expect from the series.

During the interview, Korekado mentioned that the developers initially planned for players to switch between perspectives during gameplay but eventually decided against it. He stated, “The difficulty level changes drastically depending on the viewpoint. The ‘New Style’ has a wider, more linear field of view, and you can shoot your gun while moving, so the difficulty level was lower than we had expected.”

Two Distinct Play Styles

This decision has led to the game offering two distinct play styles: the “Legacy Style,” which mirrors the original 2004 game’s fixed, zoomed-out perspective, and the “New Style,” a third-person viewpoint similar to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. According to Korekado, “If we adjusted it to match the ‘New Style,’ the ‘Legacy Style’ would become too difficult, so we decided to split the play style in two.”

For players unfamiliar with the original, the Legacy Style offers a more challenging experience, closely mimicking the game’s original difficulty. Meanwhile, the New Style will cater to modern gaming expectations, making it more accessible to newer players while maintaining the core gameplay mechanics.
