The successor to Metro 2033, the upcoming Metro Last Light, was shown off at E3 in June this year and it had much better graphics than its predecessor. The developers of Metro Last Light are working hard to ensure they maintain the high graphical standard that was set by Metro 2033 but also at the same time they are working even harder to optimise the coding of the game to ensure that lower end PCs can run the game at a playable FPS. The game is also due to be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 so optimising graphics performance is even more crucial to ensure that the console can enjoy a high standard of graphics.
The developer from the Ukrainian company 4A Games (which developed Metro 2033) Huw Benyon said that “I don’t mind telling you that it was a six gig of ram i7 and we had a single GTX-480, which was nVidia’s DX11 launch card last year. I think it’s fair to say that the guys at 4A are some kind of strange, technical wizards that can get that kind of performance out of it so we’re really excited.”
Last Light is to follow on from the Metro 2033 storyline and will see the player spend much more time on the surface fighting in Moscow rather than predominantly underground like in Metro 2033. It will also make even better use of lighting and shadow visuals than its predecessor Metro 2033 according to the developers. Metro Last Light will launch some time next year on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U.
