Michael Bay Producing Live-Action Dora the Explorer Movie

Transformers director Michael Bay is producing a live action Dora the Explorer movie. This is one of those news posts that almost sounds like an April Fool’s joke, but apparently it is true. The news comes directly and exclusively from Hollywood Reporter, who also reports that Nick Stoller is directing.
Bay, who is known mainly as an action director with his penchant for large explosions and plenty of gunfire, seem like the last guy to want to adapt Dora the Explorer into live action. Nick Stoller however, who has worked on The Muppets and other comedic movies seems like a natural choice.
Teenage Dora the Explorer
The live-action movie adaptation will actually have an older, teenage Dora rather than the 7-year old version of the original. The plot also apparently centers around her moving to the city with her cousin Diego.
There is no word yet on whether this movie is going to be a an all-ages comedy or something else like an action movie. Stoller definitely has the comedic background to make it work. Considering the original TV series ran from 2000 to 2014 with 172 episodes, many of its fanbase are also much older now. So that is most likely the target they are going for.
