Microsoft have acquired a Silicon Valley startup company known as id8 Group R2 Studios, Inc. (aka R2 Studios) which was launched in 2011.
The startup group specializes in entertainment and automation, which also worked on technology that distributes and displays digital media content on TV. This can turn out to be beneficial for Microsoft for its Xbox consoles its trying to promote its gaming console as a media streaming entertainment device by providing content from Netflix and even Comcast.
R2 studios were also in talks with Apple, Inc. and Google. The amount for wasn’t disclosed, but considering Microsoft had two more companies in a potential race to acquire the company (and its patents), the amount had to be substantial.
