Microsoft Adds Backward Compatibility for Multi-Disk Xbox 360 Games

At E3 2015, Microsoft announced that some Xbox 360 games would become playable on Xbox One consoles thanks to backwards compatibility, and even though the company made good on its promise and made more than 100 old games compatible with the Xbox One, multi-disk games were left behind for a while. Now, Microsoft’s director of programming for Xbox Live, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, has confirmed via Reddit that multi-disk games will also be playable on the current-gen console, which is definitely interesting as the company had previously stated that it would be impossible to pull off this feat.

The first multi-disk game to become backwards compatible with the Xbox One is Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, and the standard edition of the game received the same treatment back in December. It’s not exactly clear what other games will be added to the list, but it’s likely that highly appreciated titles such as Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 are the next candidates. Even though they are similar as far as hardware specifications are concerned, backwards compatibility is what makes the Xbox One stand out when compared to Sony’s PlayStation 4. The fact that multi-disk games will also become backwards compatible only serves to improve this advantage.
