According to a report, Microsoft is working with Chipset makers such as Qualcomm to develop a Windows 8 reference design. This is done so that they can attract the Chinese smartphones makers to product WP8 phones in entry level and mid-range smartphone segments in China and other markets.
The reference design is expected for release in Mid-2013 and the manufacturers should be releasing the reference version mobiles by the second half of the year. The development of WP8 phones should help Microsoft to expand and get more market share.
Currently Qualcomm is expected to tie up with Microsoft as they have been offering solutions for WP 7.5 and WP8 based models, followed by MediaTek who has strong business ties with China-based smartphone makers.
