Microsoft Is Apparently Close To Unifying Its App Stores

Microsoft is rumoured to be close to completing the unification of its two separate app stores. Currently Microsoft’s Windows Store and Windows Phone Store are both separate but if ZDNet’s reports are accurate then we could see the two stores unified in time for the launch of Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system next month. Microsoft apparently already demo’d a single app portal for Windows and the Windows Phone behind closed doors at its annual company meeting in Seattle.
The speculation aligns with recent comments made by Microsoft’s Terry Myerson who explained that a unification of Microsoft’s platforms and APIs was high up the agenda. Of course he didn’t specifically state that the two app stores would be combined but a unification of the two would be a logical extension of his comments.
