Microsoft Begins Rolling Out Windows 11 23H2 Update

Windows 11

Microsoft has begun to roll out the 23H2 update for Windows 11 which is described as providing a “limited scope of new features and functionality” and includes the previously announced features back in September including Copilot AI as well as some new enhancements.

Windows 11 23H2 AI Features

Starting off this new update with the features announced back in September mostly surrounding AI which has taken a strong hold on the tech world at the moment, for better or for worse. Copilot is an intelligent assistant which pretty much replaces Cortana meaning I will use it just as little. Copilot is designed to “accelerate your tasks, reduce friction and save you time” and does many of the things that AI has grown to be able to do including personalized answers, summarizing web pages and image generation.

That last point leads to the Paint app and Snipping tool which have been given some AI-enhanced features including Cocreator image generation. Alongside the image generation paint also now has layers and background removal to further enhance its use-cases. The snipping tool now uses AI for text extraction and redaction.

File explorer and start menu have been given more clutter with an AI-powered recommendation tab for business users helping them quickly and easily find the most relevant files based on their usage. The photos app has also had some new functionality with a more advanced search bar. The search capabilities have been improved to help quickly locate photos with keywords of objects, locations or dates within the photos.

Mini Microsoft Teams And Business Improvements

In yesterday’s announcement, Microsoft detailed the installation process alongside some changes to Chat and Microsoft Teams. Chat is now a part of Microsoft Teams and has been used to create a more compact Teams experience for those who desire more room for other tasks whilst keeping Teams visible.

Other features have been introduced that are more targeted towards businesses including Windows Passkeys for passwordless access which allows you to sign in using your face, fingerprint or device pin. Presence sensing has been improved to reduce energy usage and increase security by simply detecting if you are at your desk. This allows for the screen to be dimmed or locked when you aren’t around.

These updates will be rolled out through the coming weeks, more information is available here.
