According to a report by AllThingsD insiders within Microsoft have said that CEO Steve Ballmer is preparing some significant changes at the company. His plan is going to bring a major restructuring of the company and it will be announced on July the 1st. Insiders are apparently worried that there will be major shifts and some major departures of top executives.
One Microsoft insider described the impending changes as Titanic:
“It feels like it is going to be titanic — that Steve is doing this change for his legacy. And it’s the first time in a long time that it feels like that there will be some major shifts, including some departures”
A recent leak had suggested that Microsoft’s internal re-organisation would result in the company being split into eight discrete divisions: Windows Engineering, Online Services, Hardware and Partner Operations, Microsoft Studios, Business Platform, Microsoft Apps, Developer Tools, and Microsoft Research.
Microsoft will make more details public when their new fiscal year plans are revealed on July 1st but we could see some details emerge as early as June 26th with the Microsoft Build Developers’ Conference in San Francisco.
