Microsoft Challenges Gamers To Spot Difference in 1080p / 60FPS Debate

The wave of debate between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gamers is just as fierce as it has always been. Personally I couldn’t give a rizzle about it all, because I own both consoles and they’re both great fun to play on, but Microsoft are so eager to shoot themselves in the foot, that I just can’t help but get caught up in it from time to time.

In what has become “Resolutiongate” with many games on the Xbox One reaching around 900p vs their 1080p PS4 counterparts. Microsoft work hard to brush over this fact, but the numbers don’t lie, the PS4 is more powerful and that’s a simple fact, it can do 1080p easier without having to cut down the graphics.

“If you put third-party games side-by-side that are running at slightly different resolutions or frame rates, then unless you are using a screen that’s more than 60 inches big, I defy you to really see the difference. I personally struggle to see the difference.” said Xbox Marketing Chief Harvey Eagle.

On one hand he is right, your average consumer doesn’t know the resolution, nor do they care and likely can’t even tell. I for one can tell the difference, it’s subtle, but it is there. As a PC gamer as well, I have a keen eye for picking out faults in resolution, frame rate and anti-aliasing effects and for one I wouldn’t dream of knocking my PC games down to 900p, because I would certainly notice.

Sure the screen size and distance from screen will vary and depending on your setup, you really won’t notice the resolution issues, although I throw back at Harvey Eagle – if you can’t see the difference in games running at different frame rates, you need your eyes checking! Just saying.

Can you tell the difference between the resolutions and frame rates on your consoles, and does it matter? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
