Microsoft Commit to Split Screen For Future Halo Titles

With each game franchise, there are always a few core defining features. For Halo, one of the ones that comes to mind is the split screen co-op mode, perfect for couch parties. It came as a surprise then when Halo 5 removed this highly valued feature. In response to the various complaints since then, 343 Industries, the Microsoft group in charge of Halo, has committed to split screen in all future titles.

During the gaming oriented DICE Summit Thursday, 343 head Bonnie Ross tried to make up for the removal of split screen co-op in Halo 5. She further promised that “[343] will always have split-screen support going forward” for all first person shooters in the franchise. She noted that the reverse in policy is due to the painful effects of the backlash on both the developers and fans which eroded trust between the two groups.

This is not the first time that Microsoft has promised something only to fail to deliver. One of the reasons 343 received so much anger over Halo 5 was due to the fact that they had earlier promised split screen support. This was later walked back as we all know. At least we now have a firm commitment to keep split screen support in future Halo titles. Now that this is done, all we need now is for Microsoft to really bring the franchise back to the PC where it belongs.
