Microsoft Launches “Enforcement United” Community Police For Xbox Live

Microsoft has revealed plans for an Xbox Live “community police”. The new beta service called “Enforcement United” is designed to allow Xbox Live Gold Members to assist in the enforcement of a safe and enjoyable Xbox Live community.

“The Enforcement United program puts part of the enforcement process in the hands of our valued Xbox Live Gold subscribers. It’s our way of directly involving the Xbox Live community in our efforts to foster and maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all our members. Eligible volunteers are given the ability to judge whether certain types of content violate our Code of Conduct. If there is sufficient agreement within the community that the content breaks the rules, we’ll take enforcement action on behalf of the community!” Reads the description on the Microsoft website.

This development by Microsoft is an attempt to give some “power to the people” but probably also quite an ingenious way to reduce their own workload by offloading it onto avid gamers. Of course no doubt Microsoft will hold the final say in all serious matters (such as banning and suspensions) to prevent such community police abusing “their power” to target individuals they do not like or get on with.
