Have you upgraded to Windows 10, if not, why not? If you don’t do it soon Bill Gates might have to send some burly men to your door for a ‘nice little chat’. Yes, some people do feel that Microsofts attempts to get users of older operating systems to upgrade has been rather heavy-handed. It has, however, just took a new twist.
A report has confirmed that Microsoft Office 2019 will be a sole exclusive to Windows 10. Yes, any other version will not be compatible.
In a report via TechPowerUp, Microsoft recently changed the way in which licences were granted to their OEM partners. Part of these changes would appear to include the requirement that some software is exclusively made for the Windows 10 operating system.
It would, therefore, seem that Microsoft Office 2019 is the tip of an oncoming iceberg which may just sink Windows 7 and 8 and have the occupants rushing towards the perceived lifeboats of Windows 10. In brief, you’re upgrading to Windows 10 whether you like it or not.
No, but the writing is on the wall. It seems that Microsoft will look to create more and more exclusives in the future. That being said, Microsoft Office 2019 isn’t without its faults. Office products have generally carried a 10 year lifespan of support, in this instance, however, Microsoft has said that the 2019 release will only have guaranteed support for 5 years.
Many are going to treat this as another backdoor attempt by Microsoft to enforce us all, sooner or later, to make the switch to Windows 10. Many though are still happy on Windows 7 and 8 and in truth, I doubt this will have much of an impact, yet. Give it a few years though and I think, sooner or later, we are all going to have to make the switch.
