A new Microsoft patent has been spotted by German website WindowsUnited, suggesting that an upcoming redesign of the Surface Pro might include a thinner Type Cover.
The tablet has had revisions for its Type Cover before. However, the new design not only has a thinner profile but has the trackpad integrated directly on the circuit board. By cutting or etching the trackpad into the circuit board directly, it is movable in relation to parts of the board around it.
Microsoft has not officially disclosed any future Surface Pro plans yet. Although ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley reported back in June that the company is preparing a new model for an early 2019 launch.
Aside from the thinner profile and new trackpad, this new Surface update is rumoured to bring more features. So far, Microsoft has been very conservative in tweaking and updating their Surface products. Even going so far as to not including the much needed USB-C with the latest Surface Pro 6.
If the rumours from June are true, users can finally have USB type-C port, as well as thinner screen bezels. Plus, rumours suggests that it will be adopting the slightly rounder design of the Surface Go. If this new Surface Go is arriving in Q1 2019, we can expect to see them in person at CES 2019 in January.
