One of the key “features” of the new Windows 11 operating system has been the implementation of significantly improved security when compared to Windows 10. Now, as to whether it actually is more secure still remains something of a matter of opinion. – The continued development of security is, however, clearly one of the key aims of Microsoft on the new operating system.
With this in mind, therefore, following a new blog post, Microsoft has confirmed that a brand new update is heading for Windows 11 that will introduce what they call ‘groundbreaking new security measures’ that will take a particular focus on app-level security and with more bolstered malware protection. – While this might sound good on the surface, however, it comes with what I can only describe as a monumentally huge catch!
Just for those of you possibly already panicking at the thought of the reintroduction of some kind of Vista UAC hell, the good news is that these new security measures should largely operate within the background without any notable changes or problems to the end-user. – The issue, however, arises when you learn exactly how this update has to be installed.
Put simply, this isn’t going to be a traditional style update. The only way this new security can be implemented, at least based on Microsoft’s current position, is through a total clean reinstallation of the Windows 11 operating system! Yep, you read that correctly, if you have Windows 11 installed now, this update will only be available to you if you’re willing to go through the whole rigamarole of clearing the decks and starting fresh!
Now, admittedly, we sincerely hope that this will not be the case and Microsoft will find a way around this problem. Given that this new security is essentially going right down to the bones of Windows 11, however, I don’t see how it will be possible in any other way.
So, if you’re currently mulling over upgrading to Windows 11, you might, you know, want to give it another 2-3 months until this one drops because, quite frankly, doing it right now with this on the way seems to make literally zero sense!
