Software giant Microsoft is readying a range of tablets to be equipped with quad core processors that will run the upcoming Windows 8 operating system. The Windows 8 operating system itself will run on computers, notebooks, smartphones, tablets and ARM-based machines meaning Microsoft is venturing into territory which it has never been into before. The idea behind this is apparently for Microsoft to prove to Tablet-OEMs that they are becoming players in the Tablet market which will boost confidence in the Tablet market.
Quad core Windows 8 Tablets/Slates will apparently have a battery life of 8 hours which is fairly impressive. They should also have 10″ screens in full HD no less supporting 1080p playback. The first wave of Tablet PCs will apparently run Windows 7 but the second wave should be Windows 8 equipped. The first wave will support Windows 8 or be Windows 8 ready but obviously the operating system won’t be out until a while after the first wave is released so they won’t be sold with Windows 8. It is not yet known who will produce the quad core chip but candidates include Nvidia, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm or ST-Ericsson all whom have said they will have quad cores ready by the end of the year.
