Microsoft has released an emergency Windows patch that fixes an exploit currently being used by attackers.
The exploit in the Kerberos authentication system can give an attacker full unfettered access to your system, bypassing administrator security measures. The company says it is aware of “limited, targeted attacks that attempt to exploit this vulnerability”.
“By impersonating the domain administrator, the attacker could install programs; view, change or delete data; or create new accounts on any domain-joined system.”
The company also said “the known attacks did not affect systems running Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2,”, but has released patches for practically every version of Windows since Windows Server 2003. If you do run Windows, you better open up Windows Update and download that patch.
