Microsoft Releases RoomAlive Toolkit for Kinect

Microsoft recently released a special software framework that allows users to customize and link together a series of Kinect motion trackers in order to create unique interactive projection maps. Basically, this means that you can now create your own Star Wars hologram-based communicator and fire it up in your living room as long as you have the coding skills required to do so. The RoomAlive toolkit can be used to create anything from immersive games to art displays, but it is not exactly easy to use or set up. Actually, Microsoft promised to release multiple tutorials for its new software framework.
Ultimately, it all comes down to the user’s imagination and coding abilities, but the best part is that artistic possibilities seem endless with this technology. On the hardware side, you’ll need a Kinect (obviously) as well as a projector. Advanced users will probably want to go with a multi-projector setup, especially if they plan to use an entire room for their augmented reality projects. What would you create if you got your hands on this software? I’d probably go for a living room version of Whack-a-Mole.
