Microsoft Removes Windows 11 22H2 Update Block As Printer Bug Gets (Probably) Fixed

Despite being released for over a year now, the consumer transition rate to Windows 11 has been sluggish at best. In fact, most estimates suggest that only 15-16% of people have so far made the move from prior Windows platforms clearly indicating that while Windows 11 is new, it’s not exactly winning people over.

Of course, a key factor in this predominantly comes down to two points. Firstly, its system requirements are notably terse. And secondly, the number of bugs and problems the operating system has had have been both numerous and well documented. – We know for a fact that many in our community are still firmly clinging onto either Windows 10 or Windows 7 and show no signs of making the move any time soon because of this!

Speaking of bugs though, I daresay that it hasn’t escaped your attention that the first major update to Windows 11 (22H2 – released back in September) has been arguably creating a lot more problems than it has solved. So many, in fact, that for certain printer owners, Microsoft did actually step in to temporarily block the update for those users to ensure that it didn’t affect their ability to print.

Well, following a report via BetaNews, however, it seems that Microsoft has finally resolved the problem and, for those of you who were on the hold list, you can now likely expect to get prompted to make the 22H2 update!

Now, it should be noted that if Windows didn’t detect any problem with your printer drivers, the chances are that you’ve probably already been updated to the 22H2 version. Well, presuming you haven’t manually told it to go away for the time being. – For those who were using a printer, and specifically, that which utilised the Microsoft IPP Class or Universal Print Class driver, Microsoft has now confirmed that the error has been corrected and you should shortly expect to get prompted to make the 22H2 update.

And no, this requires no virtual legwork on your part as the update will automatically look to apply the fix to, all going well, ensure that your printer will still work correctly after it has been applied.

Again though, issues like this have been doing Microsoft no favours in trying to convince the masses to move away from older operating systems. – If you have made the move to Windows 11 though, all going well things will start to get better from this point on. Not, incidentally, that it could get worse from a PR standpoint.
