Microsoft Said To Be Working On 4 Consoles For 2019/2020

Microsoft Working On 4 Consoles

It’s long been a subject of speculation that for the release of the next-generation console, Microsoft might have been looking to do something a little different. There was, for a time, rumours that the new system was simply going to be a streaming platform. Essentially, containing just the hardware necessary to play 1080-4K video via the controller inputs similar to the technology seen in the Nvidia Shield.

These reports, however, seemed to be quashed when Microsoft not only confirmed that there would be a hardware console release, but also that they planned for it to be a huge step forward. They even took a few veiled shots suggesting it would be significantly more powerful than the PS5.

In a report via WCCFTech though, rumours have emerged that Microsoft may not be working on one individual console. Instead, it may be as many as 4 with releases planned for 2019 and 2020. Before you get excited though, the chance of the ‘next-gen releasing in 2019 is slim to zilch.

Four Consoles?

In fairness, this isn’t beyond the realms of possibility. For example, we technically have around 3 different models of the current Xbox One. The base model, the S and the X. As such, seeing the next generation see as many variants is hardly surprising. It will, however, spark fresh rumours that Microsoft is, again, taking a form of game streaming system seriously. Be it either for the next gen or current gen of systems.

A More Tempered View

Looking at it with a dose of more likely reality though, the 2019 releases will probably be the last model variants for the current Xbox One. It is known that Microsoft plans one final ‘version’ of the Xbox One S and it may also be considering a last hurrah via the Xbox One X.

We should, however, get a far better idea by late Spring/early Summer 2019.
