Microsoft Says PS4 Hardware Specs Irrelevant, Xbox One Better Optimised

While it is well-documented that the PlayStation 4 has “better hardware” in terms of more graphics cores on the same AMD GPU and faster memory bandwidth between all the system components, Microsoft executive Albert Penello told the Official Xbox Magazine that actually none of that really matters.

The reason why none of it matters isn’t because Microsoft are just choosing to dismiss it but because he says that Sony created its entire next-generation consoles using standard retail components whereas Microsoft opted for a custom designed platform that is apparently tweaked and tuned for maximum performance.

“The problem is that Sony decided to go out and publish a bunch of numbers, which are in some ways meaningless. Because this isn’t like 1990, when it was 16-bit versus 32-bit….As a matter of fact, they actually go out and they talk about how proud they are about their off-the-shelf parts. Our guys’ll say, we touched every single component in the box and everything there is tweaked for optimum performance.” said Albert Penello.

Despite this he says that the hardware argument is “pointless” and “it’s not going to matter” because ultimately gamers will differentiate by the games. Not to mention the fact there isn’t really any benchmark for determining the performance of the two next-generation consoles currently because neither is finished.

What do you think about the hardware argument? Is it pointless or does it matter?
