A Microsoft executive has branded the forthcoming Scorpio – a revision of the Xbox One hardware with more processing power, 4K output, and virtual reality support – the most innovative console ever made. In a recent interview with MCV, Xbox Head of Marketing Aaron Greenberg called the Scorpio the “most powerful console ever created” and the “next big leap forward in innovation for gaming.”
“Project Scorpio is an opportunity for us to bring true 4K gaming for the first time to the console market,” Greenberg said. “We think that is the next big leap in innovation for gaming and is something that has never been done before on console.”
“We’re building the most powerful console ever created with a six teraflop GPU,” Greenberg added. “We announced that early at E3 so that we can start working with developers and partners who we know will want to take advantage of that incredible amount of power and have a good year plus to be able to plan for it.”
While Project Scorpio has been officially announced, Microsoft is still some way off from unveiling the console itself, though, with a tentative release date of “Holiday 2017” – the “Holiday” period being between Thanksgiving and Christmas in the US – we may not see the hardware revealed until E3 2017.
