Microsoft Shuts Down Redfall And The Evil Within

Honestly, I’m surprised that Redfall has managed to cling to life for this long at the time of writing it has managed to last just over a year with it relating on the 2nd of May 2023. Now a year later which is so much longer than Redfall deserved Microsoft is closing down the studio behind Redfall and the other three developers under Bethesda.
The closing down of these developers by Microsoft was done in “reprioritization of titles and resources” that looks to focus on “high-impact” video games. These closures include Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Games.
Arkane Austin
Head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty announced that anyone who bought the hero DLC for Redfall will get “make-good” offers in return as the development of the game is finally ending.
Tango Gameworks
Tango Gameworks is probably the one who is the least deserving of the closing they are the people behind The Evil Within and most importantly the people behind Hi-Fi Rush. Hi-Fi Rush was awarded Best Audio Design at last December’s The Game Awards and was generally just a really good game that didn’t overstay its welcome.
Alpha Dog
The developers Alpha Dog are the people behind the mobile game Mighty Doom which “will be sunset” on Wednesday, August 7 alongside the ability for players to make purchases in the game.
The closures of these Studios have also come alongside industry layoffs with Microsoft announcing that they plan to lay off 1,900 workers after merging with Activision Blizzard. But as of right now when the closing of the studios and layoffs will happen is still unknown.
