Microsoft first introduced its IntelliMouse brand back in 1996. Three years later, the IntelliMouse Explorer arrived in 1999, and it paved the way for several important innovations. These include auxiliary buttons on the side, optical mouse technology, and even the scroll wheel. Now, after it announced the release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and unveiled the new Surface Book 2, Microsoft has a new surprise in store. Apparently, the iconic IntelliMouse is making a comeback. The new version comes with a classic design that mirrors the IntelliMouse 3.0. However, the technologies behind it are nothing if not contemporary.
The Microsoft Classic IntelliMouse boasts a DPI range of up to 3,200. Moreover, the company’s website states that it provides “exceptional” tracking, which sounds intriguing. Lastly, fans of the original mouse will surely appreciate the firm scroll wheel. The news was shared by Microsoft on October 17, but it’s not yet clear when this new peripheral will become available. There’s no word on pricing either, and we don’t know if the mouse will come with a conventional USB connector or with a retro PS/2 connector. Hopefully, Microsoft will answer all of these questions soon.
