I’d completely forgotten that Cortana, Microsoft’s voice assistant, even existed so the news that Cortana will be shutting down caught me off guard as I’d have assumed it would have happened ages ago.
As reported by windowslatest, the Cortana app recently received an update which caused the app to stop working on Windows 11 effectively killing it off. Users attempting to access the app are met with the message “Cortana in Windows as a standalone app is deprecated.” There is also a support article on microsoft.com that highlights the end of support for Cortana in Windows with the end goal being a focus on AI powered Windows Copilot and Bing.
Honestly, both Siri, Cortana and other voice assistants were useless and I’m not going to miss Cortana at all, Apple should probably also follow suit and ditch Siri as well. My viewpoint here also applies to Amazon Alexa and smart home devices as a whole.
