When Windows 10 first launched, it had serious stability issues. Not a week would go by without some kind of major bug popped up. Over time the number of new major has slowed down. In the run-up to their next major release, Microsoft is insisting that Windows 10 is better than ever. Windows 10 performance, stability and battery life has been getting better over time. This is all according to the stats Microsoft is collecting.
Improved stability is the key update. Creators Update, the most recent upgrade is more stable than ever. Compared to the Anniversary Update, it has 39% fewer driver and operating system issues. Part of this improvement is due to the change in rollout speed. With the Anniversary Update, Microsoft pushed it out en masse very quickly. For the Creators Update, the rollout was much slower. Fewer devices are impacted and Microsoft has more time to make fixes.
In addition to stability, performance and battery life are improving as well. Windows 10 boot time is 13% faster, logging in 18% faster, and facial recognition 30% faster. Creators Update also improves the battery life as well. In Movies & TV, the improvement is 2.5 to 5%. The Edge browser saw a 17% increase in battery life. This is all from Windows 10 telemetry Microsoft is collecting. The Fall Creators Update will likely bring more improvements.
Overall, it looks like the slow pace is paying off. Compared to the even slower Long Term Servicing Channel, stability is better as well. This is likely due to rolling fixes and updates as problems get identified. Microsoft obviously wants users to buy into the software as a service update model. It looks like Microsoft has solved the new update model. Hopefully, Windows 10 will continue to imrpove.
