White devices have grown in popularity in recent years with many white options for PC hardware, and in the console market both the PS5 and Xbox Series S launched in white though the latter has since received a black variant. Bringing it all back around though is the rumoured plans for a white digital variant of the more powerful Series X which launched in black.
From an exclusive report by exputer.com, Xbox are reportedly planning to release a new Xbox Series X which does not feature a disc reader and will be all-white. The information comes from some unnamed sources and also claims that we could see this console near the middle of the year between June and July though there could be delays.
It’s digital only design also leads to the belief that it will feature a reduced price over its standard variant somewhere between $50-100 cheaper than the $499 MSRP of the current Series X. For reference the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Slim Digital feature a price difference of £90 in the UK. Beyond the new colour and missing disc drive, there are some other changes to be expected with this console. The changes listed are an improved heatsink as well as an upgraded nexus card.
The idea of a new digital Xbox is not entirely new, as last year several documents were leaked from Microsoft which detailed an Xbox Series X Refresh codenamed ‘Brooklin’.
The details on Brooklin shared above do loosely line-up with the rumours, however at the time of the leaks, Xbox’s Phil Spencer stated “many of the documents are well over a year old and our plans have evolved” in an email to Xbox Employees. Clearly some things listed above may have changed, most notably the white colour choice but I don’t expect the rounded design to be used either. Hopefully the 2TB of internal storage is something they’ve stuck to as the 1TB in the current Series X isn’t enough nowadays.
