It has been almost three years since Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor was released and fans have been clamouring for a sequel. After mistakenly leaking on US retailer Target’s website over the weekend however, Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has finally made the news official on Monday: The sequel Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is coming. They have even released a trailer announcing its arrival:
Shadow of Mordor is an open-world action game that utilises the ‘Nemesis’ system that allows the artificial intelligence of non-playable characters to remember the death of the game’s protagonist and react accordingly. The original game received considerably favourable reviews from both fans and critics alike, praising it for its combat system, open-world design, and lore-accurate art direction. The game’s developers worked closely and consulted with several people including Weta workshop and Peter Jackson himself to bring Tolkien’s fantasy world to life in video game mode.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War’s release date is scheduled for August 22 and is now available for pre-purchase from Steam with Standard ($79.99), Silver ($99.99) and Gold Editions ($129.99). Pre-ordering gives the user the ability to forge their army with an exclusive Epic Sword of Dominion and Legendary Champions War party. Silver Edition includes Slaughter Tribe Nemesis Expansion, Outlaw Tribe Nemesis Expansion and Silver war chest ($95 in total value). The gold edition gives all the Silver Edition bonuses except the silver war chest is upgraded to a gold war chest plus adds two more story expansions: The Blade of Galadriel and the Desolation of Mordor, totalling $125 in value.
For fans in the US who are willing to spend even more, a limited Mithril Edition will also be available for $300 exclusively via retailer GameStop. This includes all of the bonuses from the Gold Edition (including the Gold war chest) plus a collection of exclusive lithographs, premium case with magnetic ring of power, official game music soundtrack, cloth map of Mordor, tribes sticker pack, Mithril war chest and a limited edition 15-inch Tar-Goroth Balrog vs Carnan Drake statue. All inside an exclusive Steelcase.
