After a long time in development, too long in the minds of many backers, Mega Man spiritual successor Mighty No 9 finally launched. Unfortunately, the Kickstarter-backed title didn’t stick to the age old idea that a delayed game would eventually be good as the game has only just released in the US and Japan and has already been found to contain a number of issues not least that for Xbox 360 players, for whom the game was delayed once again. On release day.
While other console players have already been able to get their hands on the title, Xbox 360 players seemed to be out of luck, with developer Comcept only then coming out to announce that the Xbox 360 version of the game would not be out for a few extra days. Publisher Deep Silver cited issues with the “publishing process” on the game’s official blog, adding that a “certification bug” had also been found during testing. As a small mercy, disappointed Xbox 360 backers will be receiving Steam keys to tide them over until their Xbox 360 version is released and codes available. If their computer runs Mac OS or Linux though, this isn’t much help, with the game yet to be ready on those platforms either.
Perhaps not being able to play the game is a bonus, considering the other issues reported. Wii U users seem to have been hit the worst, reporting that consoles have been “bricked” or rendered useless after entering the Mighty No 9 game code sent out to Kickstarter backers. Meanwhile, on other platforms there are reports of codes not working, missing DLC content and more. Deep Silver already claim that patches have been issued to alleviate these issues, but this isn’t much good to those whose consoles are already bricked.
Despite a successful Kickstarter campaign and the inclusion of Mega Man veteran Keiji Inafune, Mighty No 9 has had a bumpy ride, with backers facing disappointment and delays for a long time now, leaving many wondering whether the game would come out at all. Now, even if the issues that are blocking people from playing the game are resolved, judging by the reviews of the game so far, fans may be rewarded for their patience with disappointment and failure to deliver on exactly what was promised. At least it’s better than nothing, right?
