It has been nearly 25-years since the ‘Beavis & Butthead Do America’ film was released, and if you haven’t watched it yet, I’d thoroughly recommend it. No, it’s not exactly Oscar-winning material, but at the same time though, given the source material they had to work with, it’s hugely better than it had any right to be! – For anyone who has shown any interest in the franchise and its recent reboot, however, it’s not exactly a secret that the show’s creator, Mike Judge, has been working hard over the last few years to see if it was possible to make a brand new movie.
Will it ever happen though? Well, following a Twitter post by the man himself, we have some amazing news. Not only is a new Beavis and Butthead film already in production, but it’s set to be released later this year!
Despite some talk of a live-action adaptation, it seems that (thank the lord) the new film is going to retain its traditional animated style. As for exactly what we can expect though, well, the details are still pretty light on the ground. Based on the sketch images released by Mike Judge, however, it does appear that the new movie might follow the 25-year timeframe seen between this and the last movie.
In other words, Beavis and Butthead may have finally grown up. Well… Physically at least!
In this regard, although Mike Judge has confirmed the new Beavis and Butthead film will be released before the end of this year, no exact date has been provided yet. Given that it’s going to seemingly make its debut on the Paramount+ streaming platform as well, actually getting to watch it might prove difficult for international audiences. Well, those at least who intend to watch it through legitimate sources *cough*.
Will this new film be any good though? No idea. More so it’s hard to determine exactly what kind of plot the film could take beyond the possibility of Beavis or Butthead finally getting around to ‘scoring’. – While this isn’t the King of the Hill reboot announcement I might have hoped for though, in terms of unexpected surprises for 2022, I’ll take this all day long!
