I don’t think that when they were making Despicable Me that they expected the Minions to be such a break out hit. Two films and a spin-off later, they have proven to be a highly popular and profitable market.
Personally, I’ve always thought they were similar to Ubisoft’s Rabbids and have wondered why there has not yet been a lawsuit. Maybe there has and it just hasn’t come to my attention.
While we saw the official trailer for the Incredibles 2 this week, that never saw anything like the popularity of the Minions.
A pop-up cafe outlet has, however, taken the hype to the next level. Serving food and merchandise the Minions Cafe in Singapore says ‘bello’.
Firstly, in a report via CNET, I am led to understand that ‘Bello’ means hello in their language. So no, definitely not a bad typo.
Opening in Singapore the Bello Cafe offers themed foods and even a merchandise store adjacent to capitalise on the craze. The new venture follows on from their previously successful Pokemon cafe. This perhaps offered people who were offended that Pikachu had dialogue in the latest film some respite.
Offering a variety of foods while it looks quirky, it does also look very tasty. Rest assured as well that there is a range of banana foods on the menu. Apparently Minions are quite fond of them.
Opening only as a pop-up, the cafe will shut its doors on January 31st. Therefore, if you’re taking a trip to Singapore, it might be worth checking out. If you’re not planning a trip, it might be a good idea not to mention it to the kids as they’ll likely spend the next 2 months badgering you to take them.
