MMO Gaming Mouse Showdown

Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite

This is one of the most popular MMO mice out there, and for good reason, as Corsair has a solid reputation for complex gaming mouse designs with fantastic performance. So much so, that this isn’t even the first version of this mouse! Corsair has had this mouse, in one form or another, on the market for over six years now. This latest one is around two years old now but offers up a fantastic sensor and features that keep it extremely competitive.

Much like the SteelSeries mouse we’ve looked at, this also has a 12-button side panel, but while the SteelSeries has some unique features of its own, the Scimitar sets itself apart too, thanks to some cool ergonomic adjustment features, the stunning iCUE RGB technologies, and a truly awesome PixArt PWM3391 optical sensor that allows for 1 DPI adjustments right up to 18,000 DPI. Plus, I find that Corsair iCUE is the best desktop peripheral software on the market today, and its macro engine is as potent as Corsair’s RGB technology.

Features

  • 17 Fully Programmable Buttons: Built with Ideal for performing frequent actions and executing complex macros in MMOs and MOBAs.
  • Patented Key SliderTM Control System: Reposition the 12 side buttons to comfortably fit your grip.
  • Native 18,000 DPI Optical Sensor: Equipped with a custom PixArt PMW3391 sensor, adjustable in 1 DPI resolution steps, for highly accurate and customizable tracking.
  • Ultra-Durable Construction: The SCIMITAR RGB ELITE’s 50 million click-rated Omron switches, sturdy scroll wheel, and braided cable ensure that it stands up to the wear-and-tear of extended gaming.
  • Comfortable Contoured Shape: Sculpted to fit the contours of your palm, regardless of hand size or grip style, with a right-side finger rest for added support.
  • Dynamic Four-Zone RGB Backlighting: Near limitless customization of colours and effects.
  • Powerful CORSAIR iCUE Software: Enables RGB lighting control, sophisticated macro programming and button remaps, sensitivity customization, surface calibration, and more.
  • Onboard Profile Storage: Take your macros and lighting profiles with you anywhere you go.
  • Surface Calibration Utility: Maximizes precision and responsiveness based on your mouse pad or surface.

This is certainly one of the most unique mice on the market today, with a really aggressive and undoubtedly “gamer” aesthetic to it. It’s quite a large mouse too, built for those long-hour late-night MMO raid sessions. It’s bit enough to rest my entire hand on without being overly heavy or wallowing. Overall, the mouse weighs 122 grams, so it is the heaviest of the three. It may be big, but it’s surprisingly nimble and glides so smooth, as a gaming mouse should.

The Scimitar RGB Elite is a many-button wonder, featuring a competent 17-button design. As you can see, 12 of those buttons are on the left side. However, they’re mounted on their patented Key Slider. The whole panel can be adjusted forward or backwards to suit your hand size and personal ergonomics. When you find the perfect spot, you can lock it in place and you’re good to go.

The 12 buttons are awesome too, with a dual texture design that makes them extremely easy to index, plus they have a very light and quiet but satisfying click of their own, that makes them feel nice and responsive to use. One thing I really like about having this many buttons is I can have pretty much all of my actions, chat commands and emotes on tap without needing to switch to multiple profiles to reach them all. That being said, I do use multiple profiles anyway, but I do like having a LOT of commands under my thumb. What’s really good, is that the mouse features a four-zone RGB design, so adding visual cues to show you what DPI level or control profile you have active is super easy.

The Scimitar RGB elite is equipped with a custom PixArt PMW3391, delivering a true 18,000 DPI tracking that can be adjusted in 1 DPI steps. That means you can truly fine-tune every profile to suit your needs with remarkable detail. Plus, the software offers up surface scanning and other sensor fine-tuning technologies, so you’ll always get the best from this mouse.

The mouse buttons are superb, and feature 50M rated Omron switches that are snappy and responsive, but also fast and light enough for those more frantic raids.

But overall, it’s also just one of the coolest-looking mouse designs out there. Sure, a little big and extreme for some, but for an MMO gaming mouse, this thing is clearly out to kick some ass.
