Mobile GTX 1060 as Fast as the Desktop Version?

Mobile GTX 1060 as Fast as the Desktop Version?

Following a number of benchmark leaks for the mobile version of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card recently, similar details have emerged regarding its mid-range cousin, the GeForce GTX 1060M. If the figures are to be believed, the mobile version of the card could be equally as fast as the GTX 1060 desktop model, though with slightly lower core and memory speeds.

“[T]he mobile version of GTX 1060 is expected to end up being as fast as the desktop version,” according to NextPowerUp. “The only difference will be clocks, where the notebook version will have reduced core and memory speeds. The GTX 1060M will be clocked at 1,405 MHz instead of 1,506 MHz in the basic mode, and 1,671 MHz instead of 1,709 MHz in GPU Boost 3.0 mode.”

The leak comes courtesy of Polish tech site PurePC:

PurePC benchmarked the GTX 1060M with an Intel Core i7-6700K and 16GB RAM, which managed to achieve a remarkable 3DMark FireStrike score of 10,295.

While these benchmarks, even if true, may not truly represent the performance of the officially released product in all circumstances, should they prove accurate then the GTX 1060M seems like a great choice for mobile gaming at 60fps and 1080p.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 is set for release on 19th July.
