Giving a popular game a ‘free weekend’ generally tends to represent a good piece of business. – You allow those who have perhaps been sitting on the metaphorical fence an opportunity to try it out, and if they love it, you’re probably going to get a sale out of them at the end of it.
If you have, therefore, been a little bit tempted in checking out Modern Warfare 2 but haven’t yet made the plunge, then you might want to just wait a little longer as following a report via WCCFTech, a reliable leak source has claimed that Activision is planning the launch of a free weekend, and it might be arriving in less than a month!
According to the source, set to run between December 15th and December 19th (effectively representing a long weekend) Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer mode will be free for all to access during this time period. No purchase is necessary. Try it out and if you love it, make the purchase at the end and carry on your progress.
We should note though that it does appear that this is solely going to be restricted to the multiplayer game. Which does make sense given that you could easily beat the single-player campaign probably within a couple of relatively casual days (not that I’m necessarily knocking it as it is predominantly fantastic!).
Of course, though, we should note that as you read this now, this is merely just a rumour with nothing yet officially confirmed from Activision. – With that being said though, a ‘free weekend’ will undoubtedly drop at some point in the future and mid-December (immediately in the run-up to Christmas) does feel about right in terms of timing.
So, if you have been thinking about buying Modern Warfare 2, maybe just give it another couple of weeks and see if you’ll get the opportunity to try it for free!
