How Much Does it Cost?

Montech is on a winning streak here, as the prices of these fans are very competitive. Albeit, I suggest you avoid buying them on Amazon, as the prices are double and sometimes triple there for some reason… Sort your damn Amazon store out Montech! However, thankfully on Scan.co.uk, the prices are much more reasonable, with the 120mm Montech AX120 costing just £6.98 each for either a black or white ARGB fan. While the 140mm Montech AX140 are just £11.99 each.

Overview

I love what Montech has been doing recently, and actually, they remind me a lot of the early efforts of rival brand Deepcool, hitting the market with great quality products that are very competitive with their prices. Montech are a relatively new brand to us here at eTeknix, but if this is the kind of quality we’ll continue to see from them, they’ll be a much bigger name in the UK market in little time.

Just look through the news and reviews we’ve covered from Montech in the last year or two, and you’ll see they’ve got some gorgeous products, and we’ll have reviews of their stunning new PC cases in the coming weeks too, so keep an eye out for those. Of course, fans may not be the most exciting product sometimes, but the AX120 and AX140 are certainly impressive.

Their build quality is decent, not that I often see many poorly made fans these days, but they’re easily just as well made as any other big-name brand. The cost is low, and there are signs of some cost saving, such as the fairly minimal cardboard packaging, there are no splitter cables, cable extensions, and no PWM or ARGB pass-through headers on the cables, which is a shame, but I think that’s fairly reflected in their retail price.

In terms of airflow, the AX140 are superior just because they’re a larger fan, they can easily move nearly double the airflow of the AX120. That being said, the AX120 airflow is competitive with big-name brands, and both are well-suited to case installations. However, if you’re looking for a cooler or radiator fan, you’ll want one of their higher air-pressure models.

The ARGB lighting is gorgeous, with bright and vibrant colours, and being ARGB they’re fully addressable with 20 LEDs in each fan, you can do a lot of customisation and enjoy a lot of cool effects. Some people may prefer the fans themselves to be illuminated, but I like this surround lighting effect instead, as I think it looks more tasteful, but that’s subjective.

Should I Buy Them?

At this price, it’s really easy for me to recommend either the Montech AX120 or the AX140. They deliver decent airflow and competitive noise levels even at higher RPM, making them well-suited for most PC cases. If you can accommodate the AX140, they’re certainly the better of the two, but the AX120 hold up well too.
