Montech Century Gold 650W Power Supply Review

Although Montech is perhaps a brand best associated with their excellent range of PC case designs, over recent years they have been gaining an excellent reputation among the community for not only their cooling solutions (check out our review of the Montech Air Cooler 210 here) but also for their reasonably small but impressively potent range of power supplies. No, on the whole, they don’t release much. But when something new does come to the market from Montech, the savvy consumer knows that it’s almost certainly going to be, at the very least, worth checking out.

With this in mind, therefore, with the release of their new Century series of power supplies, we simply had to give one of these PSUs a closer look!

Montech Century Gold 650W

The main crux of the Montech Century Gold 650w power supply, at least on the surface, can largely be boiled down into four key points. It’s fully modular, has an 80-Plus Gold efficiency rating, has 100% Japanese capacitors, and is provided with a pretty impressive 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. Of course, the good stuff doesn’t end there, but even for the most casual of consumers, these are solid and easily recognisable features that have come to represent the modern standard for quality PSU designs.

Put simply, whether for gaming or general day-to-day usage, this power supply does seem (at least on the surface) to be ticking all of the right boxes!

Before we got onto more features and the specifications of the Montech Century, however, we should note that this is provided as a range that is available in power outputs of; 550w, 650w, 750w, and 850w. All of these are 80-Plus Gold Efficiency certified and come as fully modular designs. Although we will specifically be reviewing the 650w variant in this review, for the sake of making this easier on the eye (and my fingers), for the remainder of this review we will largely (and simply) refer to it as the Montech Century.

Connections

Coming as a fully modular design, one of the key benefits of this design is only having to use the connections your components need. This helps improve cable management and, by proxy, lowers clutter that may impact the system’s overall airflow. Although ‘only’ rated to 650 watts, the Montech Century still proves you with more than enough cables to hook up the vast majority of even high-end gaming PCs. This includes 4 x PCIe 8-pin connectors as well as 8 SATA ports.
