Moobox ProXT Wire-Free HD Camera Review

It is time for me to have fun with another camera and today we're working with Moobox and their latest solution. The Moobox ProXT is a wire-free outdoor camera, capable of 1080p day and night recording. Moobox ProXT The Moobox ProXT comes as a starter kit with a hub and one camera. You can get additional cameras too, both the current and older models. There are outdoor models such as this one, indoor models, and 720p models available. But we'll focus on the one in the office, the outdoor system. The camera is a palm-sized wire-free IP65 rated outdoor 1080p Full HD security camera. It comes with a built-in rechargeable battery which makes the setup very easy. You don't need to have a power outlet where you place it or drill holes for it. With common usage, the battery is said to last about 4 months. That's impressive. One of the reasons that the camera will last so long on a single charge is that it is motion activated and as such, doesn't record all the time. It turns on and records when it's needed, otherwise, it's idling with minimal power consumption. The camera also features IR night vision for 24/7 usage. There's a good chance for more activity at night, making it a vital feature in any surveillance camera. Besides the camera, there's also a hub to which the camera connects. You can connect up to 4 cameras to a single hub. The tiny device features a built-in video recorder with 16GB capacity. There's also 7 days cloud storage included for free. Easy Mounting and Configuration It is a breeze to install the Moobox ProXT. That includes the physical setup, the configuration, and the mobile companion software. Physically mounting the camera is as easy as screwing the magnetic holder in somewhere. Two screws and you're done with this step. But first, you should connect the camera with the hub. Again, that's extremely simple as it just requires you to push a button for 2 seconds on each device. As far as the software goes, install it and scan the QR code provided and you're done with that too. That's truly as easy as it can get. You'll be done with it all in just minutes. Moobox Features We touched on most features above, but there are a few more that are worth mentioning. The camera is 100% wire-free thanks to the built-in 3200mAh battery. The Moobox ProXT offers push notifications and live streaming as well as recording events to the cloud and internal 16GB hub storage. Thanks to having both a microphone and a speaker, the ProXT is also capable of 2-way audio. and motion detection. It is also worth mentioning that the camera has a 120-degree viewing angle and records its video in H.264. More information can be found on the official product page by clicking here. Package and Accessories The Moobox ProXT camera is quite small and as such, the package doesn't need to be large either. The front has a picture of the camera itself, but not much else on information. On the other hand, or rather other side, we find all the details on the rear side of the package. Both the included camera and the hub are described in detail. The side also features highlights in the form of icons with text. Inside the box, you'll find all of this. Accessories Pack The above picture might contain a bit much to take it all in at once, so let us split it up a bit. First, we have the cables. There is an RJ45 cable and a USB to power cable for the hub. There's also a USB charging cable for the camera which also can be attached to the hub. The included power adapter is this one. It delivers 2A at 5V. If you aren't familiar with this type of travel plug, you need to know that it can extend the third pin to match your outlet. The mounting accessories include the large magnetic ball mount as well as piece of 3M VHP double-sided tape. Along with it all, you get notes with tips, for the first time setup, and what to do if you do run into trouble. But the latter is unlikely. It's too easy. A Closer Look at the Camera and Hub It is time for a closer inspection of the hub and camera. We'll take them one at a time, but there isn't alot to see with such a simple device. Most things are handled by software. The Hub The top of the hub features a connection button. The ring around it doubles as a status LED when you pair it with a camera. The bottom has four small feet as well as an indent for a screw. This allows you to hang it on a wall, out of the way. The rear side, which will face downwards if you hang it, is where all the connectors are. There's a USB port to charge your camera with, a LAN port for the connection to your router, and a power port. The Camera The camera is about the same size as the hub. Both fit in your palm, allowing for discrete placements. The bottom features a bit of information along with the sync button. Around the sync button is a rubber cover which will reveal the charging port when opened. The front features the camera lens along with the PIR motion detection and IR LEDs. The rear side features a groove for the magnectic mount, but there's also a screw mount. However, the latter requires third-party mounting tools. Next to the screw mount, we see a couple holes which allow for the 2-way communication. The sides don't have any features as such, but there is a large print with the name. Well, large is relative as the camera is quite small. Setup and Initialisation The installation and setup is real easy. Get your Android or iOS powered tablet or mobile out and place the hub and camera conencted next to you. Download the app, install it, and run it. You'll now be welcomed by a setup, allowing you to add hubs and cameras. First, we add our hub to the setup. Throughout the whole setup, the app will tell and show you what to do. And it really isn't a lot that we do need to do. After the hub setup, its time for the camera. Again, this takes mere seconds and you're presented with the normal app view. A list of all your cameras. Since we only connected one, there will logically only be the one in the list. As you might notice in the bottom right corner, there is a red dot next to the settings icon. That is because there are updats available. You should apply them to get the best and most secure experience. After a couple of minutes, that's done too. The first time you enter the live view, you also get a small hint on how to use it. Mainly, that you can zoom in and out with your fingers as you're used to in any other mobile imageing app. Mobile App Usage Using the mobile app is as easy as the setup was. Not a lot of fuss, just the few settings and functions you're actually looking for. Each connected camera is listed below each other in the initial view. Since I only have one, there can't be more for my tests. However, if you got more, you can easily add them with the plus button at the top. Each camera has a notification amount shown as well as a hotkey for the settings - both next to the name. The thumbnail features an overlay which will show the battery state, wireless connection, and whether motion detection is turned on or not. At the bottom of the app, you get shortcuts to the three main pages: Cams, events, and settings. Events The events page lists all triggered events. You can switch between the cloud and local storage, download them, or just view them on your device. There's also a calendar, allowing you to quickly jump to the day you're looking for. Sadly, the calendar doesn't seem to highlight days where events are present. Settings The last thing to look at are the settings pages. There are separate pages for each hub and camera, allowing you to configure them differently. There isn't a whole lot of settings available as shown by the below screenshots, but you'll find the vital ones. Motion sensitivity and video durations each have 3 settings. Support Within the app, you also find a shortcut to the Support Center in the even that you need help with the setup or usage of your new Moobox ProXT. Video Tests It has been a bit sparse with visitors in my garden lately, but I did manage to capture a few. I'll keep the camera up in the hopes to capture more. I know that there is a lot more to see out there. Pricing At the time of this review, the starter kit with a Moobox hub and the Moobox ProXT camera can be yours for just £97.99. Additional cameras of the same type can be bought for £85.57. At this time, we couldn't spot it on the US version of Amazon, but you can keep on trying. Final Thoughts There are a lot of cameras and surveillance systems that promise an easy setup and usage, but not all deliver. Moobox ProXT is not among those that fail this as it's incredibly easy to mount, install, and use. There aren't a lot of professional-grade settings to worry about, instead, it's built with the settings and options you actually need. Motion detection, night time vision, and outdoor usage. Both the hub and the camera are small enough to hide away and not bother you in your every-day life. That's great and allows you to install and forget about the actual hardware. Just enjoy the benefits of having motion detected night-vision-capable surveillance where you want it. One of the reasons it's so easy to install is that the camera comes with a built-in rechargable battery. That means that you don't need to run any power or connection cables at all for the installation. There is one drawback to this and that is that it won't pre-record and the video length per trigger is limited to a maximum of 30 seconds. So if you can live with those 2 items, which most can, the Moobox ProXT is a great choice. The video quality is good at both day and night, delivering what it promises. Full-HD surveillance.
