More AMD Threadripper Info Leaked, 19XX Naming Scheme Confirmed

Retail store Skroutz leaked two AMD Threadripper CPUs listed as having 16 cores with the naming scheme 1998 and 1998X. While some are doubtful of that information, VideoCardz.com unearthed more information regarding engineering sample updates from AMD. This time it is a 12-core, 24-threaded CPU bearing a “1920” naming scheme. This appears to follow the 19XX format from Skroutz, even though this sample is apparently going to be bundled in an Alienware system. From the VideoCardz.com info, this AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920 runs at 3200MHz base clock.

Two other AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs are also listed in the same engineering sample information. One has an ID of ZD1840A8UGAF4 with a 3400 MHz base and 3700MHz turbo. Another has an engineering sample ID of 1D3101A8UGAF3_36/31_N running at 3100MHz base and 3600 MHz turbo clocks.

Enough about Threadripper, How About Vega?

Aside from Threadripper, AMD’s Vega GPUs are also hotly anticipated and much information about it have been coming out over the past few weeks. From VideoCardz.com’s engineering sample list, three product ID’s are listed with 8GB memory and three sport 16GB of VRAM. Two of these 16GB video cards belong to the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition GPUs, with 1600MHz core clock. These GPUs are confirmed to have 4,096 shaders and sporting the second generation HBM2 memory. The three 8GB memory Vega video cards are clocked at 1500, 1200 and 1000 MHz. They bear codenames of 687F:C1, 687F:C3 and 6863:00 respectively. These also have a slightly slower memory frequency compared to the Frontier Edition at 925 MHz vs 945 MHz.

What is known is that the Radeon Vega Pro 64 and Radeon Vega 56 are scheduled for workstation PCs in Q4 2017. The specifications for the 16GB Frontier Edition Vega actually match the Vega Pro 64. This makes it highly likely that this other set of cards will match the Radeon Vega 56 specs, except for gaming. Unlike the Frontier edition which is expected to have 4096 streaming processors, the lower tier card will most likely sport 3584 SPs with 56 CUs on a similar 2048-bit memory bus.
