More benchmarking of the GTX 680 surface

More and more news for Nvidia’s GTX 680 as we reach the release date, recently having seen Kepler’s new technologies, a possible price and the fact that it is expected to sell out fast. Additional news comes in the form of new benchmarking charts.

Various benchmarks were run with the card, all using an Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition processor running at stock frequency but cooled by what appears to be liquid nitrogen, an Asus Rampage IV Extreme motherboard, 8 GB (4x 2 GB) GeIL EVO 2 DDR3-2200 MHz quad-channel memory, Corsair AX1200W PSU and Windows 7 x64 as the operating system.

The benchmarks include 3DMark 11 , Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Lost Planet 2 and an unmentioned version of Unigine Heaven in addition to the temperature and power draw. The tests were run at a resolution of 1920×1080, with 8x MSAA making an appearance in a couple of tests.

If the graphs are true, Kepler is the winner once more. While such pre-release benchmarks always need to be taken with grain of salt, the fact that the tests were not run by Nvidia or a board partner, but by a reviewer from HKEPC instead does make things slightly more interesting. However things aren’t certain yet, we’ll have to wait for the NDA to be lifted to see the reviews.
